About Us

“It’s special when I wake up and I know it’s a Pre-School day” Churchill pre-schooler, aged 4 .

Churchill Pre-School is a busy, popular community group that provides pre-school education for children prior to them starting at primary school. We are located within the Churchill Memorial Hall and have our own outdoor play area. Churchill Pre-school operates full day care on Monday to Friday, linking the morning and afternoon sessions with an optional Lunch Club. We take up to 26 children per session, with up to 8 under-3-year-olds in any one session. We operate during school term times.

We are a non-profit making organisation and registered charity (Charity No 1044073) run by an elected voluntary committee of parents and carers of the children currently attending pre-school. Our Aims underpin our philosophy of providing a service run by the community for the community.

Our Aims.

At this important initial stage we endeavour to give the pre-school children a firm foundation for their lifetime of learning by:

Providing a high quality caring environment which allows the pre-school child to develop physically, intellectually and socially.
Engaging the child in learning through play by providing well planned and child-initiated activities with appropriate support, following the relevant national guidelines.
Working in mutual respect with parents ensuring that all children feel included, secure and valued, leaving no child excluded or disadvantaged.

We have a pro-active equal opportunities policy and aim to provide the children with a positive introduction to the cultural and ethnic diversity of our world. We operate a key worker system with agreed individual learning goals. We have a comprehensive range of policies which are devised in consultation with parents, committee and staff and are accessible to all.

Through monitoring and evaluation the Pre-School constantly reviews the quality and range of services available to families and staff. We have recently had a good Ofsted inspection report and are members of the Pre-school Learning Alliance who provide advice and guidance on all aspects of the pre-school. We have also achieved the Bristol Standard Quality Assurance Standard which is a self evaluation scheme awarded for quality provision of pre-school education.
